How Much Does SEO Cost?
One question we get asked a lot is “how much do you charge?” At Velium SEO we tailor our pricing to each individual client and before we can come up with a price for you we need to know a little bit about your business.
There are two main factors that we use as a foundation of our price proposal:
- The level of competition in your industry
- Where your website currently stands
I’ll elaborate a little on each of these.
In order to rank your website on the first page of Google we have to pick a keyword (or a phrase with multiple words in it) to target. We will ask you what keywords you would like to rank for and we’ll also do some keyword research of our own and together we’ll come up with a list of suitable keywords to go after.
So for example, if you are a roofer operating in Berkshire then we might target keywords such as:
- roofer berkshire
- roofers in berkshire area
- berkshire roofing contractors
- top roofing companies in berkshire
- berkshire roofing company reviews
- roofing contractors in berkshire area
- roofing companies in berkshire
- roofing contractors in berkshire
- roofing contractor berkshire
How competitive those keywords are depends on the industry and the location. Some industries such as plastic surgeons are far more competitive than say, tree surgeons. The location will also have a large effect. If you are targeting a big city such as London, Manchester etc it will be far more competitive than a small town or suburb of a larger area.
We use a tool called the Moz Keyword Explorer to assess the difficulty of the keywords you wish to target and we use that as a baseline from which to proceed.
Your Current Ranking
Ranking two different websites for the same keyword could be completely different. Imagine trying to rank a brand new site that has very little content, loads slowly, has built up no trust in Google, doesn’t have any existing traffic or social signals and currently does not rank anywhere in the top 100 for any of the chosen keywords.
Now compare that to ranking an established business that has been around for several years, has a lot of well organised and relevant content on the site, is well optimised and loads quickly, is already trusted by google, gets a decent amount of traffic and social engagement and is already ranking on pages 3-5 for most of the target keywords.
Hopefully you can see how it would be much easier to rank the second site than the first one. We’ll do a brief analysis of your website and current ranking before making a proposal and the price will depend on the current status of your site and its rankings.
There are some other factors to take into consideration as well. If your site has been around a while but has had some bad SEO done in the past, we may have to perform a detox on your site to remove bad links, inaccurate citations or other things that could be hurting you.
Some sites may be so poorly organised that we have to do a major overhaul of the site structure (or even build a new site from scratch!) before we can really get started. Other sites might just need the odd tweak here and there.
There are some businesses that have had a website for a while but have not had any SEO done so in those cases we’d be starting from scratch and have more work to do. Others may have a base of decent SEO that we can build upon and can therefore progress more quickly with.
